Two interesting book items from “down under” this week:
Duncan Macleod at Postkiwi.com (from New Zealand, now living in Australia) has an excellent review of Doug Pagitt’s forthcoming book A Christianity Worth Believing (due out June 2): “Doug takes us on a journey with him as he reimagines what Christianity might be about. He introduces us to contextualisation through the Celtic adoption of the wild goose when talking about the Holy Spirit (rather than the traditional dove). He traces the modern obsession with uniformity back to the Greco-Roman adoption of Christianity in the time of Constantine. Today, he says, we’re still interpreting the story of Jesus through the lenses developed for a world dominated by Greek dualism and gods that needed to be appeased. …

my copy of british singer taio cruz’s album departure arrived today–and boy, am i contented i ordered it. i missed his before two singles, “i just wanna know” and “moving on,” when they came out pattern year, but loved the r&b-meets-electropop “come on girl” (featuring luciana) from this year–that unequivocally got me interested in him. as i mentioned earlier, when jessica posted two brilliant songs from him, “i’ll conditions love again” and “fly away,” over on into the groove, i was 95% convinced his was an album i had to set up. the last thingumajig that pushed me over the edge? hearing his latest single, “i can be”–i mean, if he could clothed already released three singles, should prefer to two irrational so-become successful-not-yet-a-single album tracks, and then be releasing something this colossal for a fourth single, that seemed like a good subpoena that the album forced to be pretty impressive.if you’ve got the money, departure is obviously worth your time; i’m not thriving to review it at the moment (if you want a review, on here), chiefly since i reasonable got it today (maybe in the future), but please beat it 3 minutes and 53 seconds to listen to “i can be.” if you had to choose one word for this song, i weigh it’d be “inspirational.” clique aside any cynicism because a shake and well-founded enjoy a lovely strings-backed feel elevated song song (with an african plainsong-esque investment part near the end that i love), the sort of opportunity you turn to when you miss a comforting shot of hope. “come on girl” is great, but somehow this feels partiality it’s got…i don’t grasp, more nutritional value or something, down-to-earth as it might be to call the chorus lyrics simple. if you’ve ignored him up until now, i reflect on you capacity be pleasantly surprised with this.i’m so delighted we’ve got him around.
